Looking at Arsenal's options from the bench, it is Eze that catches the eye as an option to break this game open. Odegaard has struggled to find space inside the Sunderland block, the former Crystal Palace man may just have that extra individuality to map a more unusual route to goal. We may well see him come onto the left for Tzolis if the game remains level after 60 minutes.

A well-contested half of football comes to a close with Sunderland growing into the game as it has worn on. The first quarter saw a stern rearguard action, with two flat banks of four protecting the goal, and Brobbey as a lone outlet on the halfway line. Le Bris’ men executed this to a tee, without conceding any real chances of note, besides a weak Saka effort from a Rice cross and a couple of Havertz opportunities. Arsenal have been easy on the eye but created just 0.86 xG, building pressure on various occasions but not making it pay. Sunderland began to find their attacking feet late on, having a series of corners and pinching the ball back from Arsenal inside their own half, but they will need more than their 0.13 xG if they are to send their opponents back to the capital with anything less than three points. As solid as the home side have been, you feel there will be at least two or three more good opportunities in the second half for Arsenal, especially given their strength off the bench. That said, Sunderland have their last two match-winners, Talbi and Isidor, to add firepower if necessary. Brobbey has been exceptional up against Konsa, bringing runners into play and not giving the centre back a sniff.

They are being patient and not expending too much energy, then pouncing at the slightest loose touch or pass. It's been an excellent display from the hosts so far. Second plays 14th in the Premier League today as the champions make the long journey to the north east coast to face a side which held them to a draw here last season, as Brian Brobbey’s 94th minute equaliser cancelled out Trossard’s 74th minute strike.
